Message from Alayne: It’s What I Do…
Alayne Blickle and a horse in the Sweet Pepper Ranch barn

Every month I am lucky enough to talk and work with horse people from all over the country – all over the world, actually. I love what I do, and I am grateful for the cool horse people I get to work with.

Take Katie and Dan Gillis who recently purchased 40 acres of land which includes a barn and alfalfa field in nearby Kuna, ID. They have exciting plans of setting up a commercial horse boarding facility, building a home and growing hay.

“We’ve chosen to work with Alayne because we are starting a new horse property almost from scratch and want to do things better this time around,” says Katie. “We’re interested in less mud, composting manure, pasture management, natural fly and weed control, xeric landscaping and overall being more ‘green.’ Alayne is just a wealth of information on all these subjects and we’re so grateful for all her help and insight! We’re hoping that someday our place will be a good example that others can learn from and can be one of Alayne’s farm tour sites,” she adds.

I have benefited from this endeavor as well. It’s been intriguing learning specifics on how to grow alfalfa and renovate a commercial-sized pasture. I’ve had the opportunity to learn about the environmental benefits of no-till drills, roller-crimpers (a non-chemical alternative for weed control), and how to get rid of aphids on alfalfa.

As another client recently mentioned to me, “Everyone is a teacher and everyone is a student.”

Let me know if you’d like to work together. I love to share!

Alayne

Pearl was a beautiful, true black mare with only a small white spot on her forehead and a BIG personality. That girl could untie ANY knot in no time flat. She could and would open latches and stall doors, undo hoses, and play with anything in her reach. Talented, beautiful, personable—and ready for a home where all that fit in place.
A new phrase has been coined to describe how many of us feel about the overwhelming issues we face with our planet: “climate doomism.” This feeling of overwhelm often leads to inaction, but behaviorists suggest a way to overcome those feelings.
