Introducing the Horses for Clean Water Film Festival
Freshly popped popcorn in a wooden bowl on a black surface with movie tickets.

Welcome to our special Earth Month celebration at Horses for Clean Water. In this month’s articles, you will find several ideas and ways that we horse owners can coalesce around the Earth Day theme, banding together to help take care of our beautiful blue (and horsey) planet.

First, to celebrate Earth Day, we are excited to introduce our first ever Horses for Clean Water Film Festival. Here’s how it works: we have compiled a list of short films that shed light on a variety of environmental issues. To access to our film festival just send us an email to alayne@horsesforcleanwater.com with “HCW FILM FESTIVAL” in the subject line. We will send you the list of films with their links—which we hope you’ll enjoy!

In exchange, we ask for you to donate either time or money to a cause of your choice that helps the natural world in some manner. There’s no minimum commitment and no specifications on how to do this. It’s all on the honor system. Once you’re done, just send me an email with a sentence or two about what you did—something as simple as “I donated $10 to The Nature Conservancy” or “I picked up trash along the highway in front of our property.” In a future newsletter, we’ll report back with a summary of the impacts of our concerted efforts.

If this is successful (and I bet it will be!), we’ll do it again! Feel free to send me suggestions of environmental films you’ve seen—or maybe you’ve even participated in a film production of some sort yourself. Or any other thoughts you have on this topic. We’d love to hear from you!

It’ll be fun, it’ll be easy, and we’ll experience the satisfaction of knowing that together, horse people are doing something to help our planet.

Be sure to read the article on 6 Ways for Horse Owners to Participate in Earth Day and check out our upcoming virtual classes. HCW also has new Tip Sheets available that you might want to check out.

Happy spring, happy Earth Month, and enjoy this issue!

Over the past few months, I’ve had several opportunities to learn how to improve resources offered through Horses for Clean Water, as well as my personal horsemanship skills. Just as fall is the time to prepare for an easier winter, it is also an excellent time to invest in our own learning and improve our ability to better care for our horses and properties.

If you’re looking for a good book to curl up with while you wait for the snow to melt, here are some that I’ve recently read and recommend—plus some submitted by our readers.

January is time for adventures—adventures that come in all shapes and sizes. It's about planning exciting activities for the year ahead, which can be all sorts of fun and exciting things. Adventures can be as modest as planning for your new pollinator hedgerow or as grand as saving up for a trip to ride in southern Europe.
