4-Hers For Clean Water
4-Hers for Clean Water is an innovative new program recently developed for 4-H youth in Snohomish County. At the heart of the program is the Guide to Healthy HorseKeeping Manual which teaches youth what they can do around their horse place to protect horse health AND the environment (see manual samples below). The project also incorporates a merit badge program that provides 4-Hers with an incentive to earn 4 different badges for the following components:
- Written Badge
Completing the manual activities plus a checklist that helps 4-Hers evaluate their own farm.
- Field and Class Badge
Attend farm tours and workshops that further solidify the teachings in the manual.
- Project Badge
Do a presentation to their 4-H club on one of the Healthy HorseKeeping practices described in the manual.
- Trainer Badge
Become a Trainer so they can provide support to other 4-Hers working to earn their badges.
See the 4-Hers Spring 2007 Flyer for more details on the program. If youre interested in getting your own 4-Hers for Clean Water program started in your county, contact Alayne Blickle for more information.
